Types of Dental Sedation
At Ossipee River Dental we can offer two different types of sedation
-
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is the most common form of sedation in dentistry. It’s a mild sedative that is inhaled through a mask placed over your nose. It helps you relax and reduces discomfort, but you remain fully awake and responsive during the procedure. The effects wear off quickly once the gas is stopped, so you can resume normal activities right after your appointment. -
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation involves taking a prescribed pill before your appointment. This can help you feel deeply relaxed and calm. You may still be awake, but you might not remember the procedure or may feel drowsy during it. It's a great option for patients with moderate anxiety.
